Update Your Dictionary

If you have a dictionary, do yourself a favor and mark out the words "can't" and "impossible". They don't exist.

Bad Timing, I Think Not

Some people would say with the economy slowing down and rising gas prices that this isn't the best time to start freelancing. Bad timing if you will. Luckily I don't believe in bad timing but I do believe in the consistent creation of opportunities.

"Within every adversity is an equal or greater benefit." - Napoleon Hill

Opportunities are presented to us everyday in different ways. Sometimes they are opaque and easy to see and other time ...

Completed Focus

How much time do you take in a day to reflect on your small accomplishments? Most of us rush from project to project completing tasks and moving on to the next. Even worse, while working on the next part of a project sometimes our mind starts thinking about what is coming up next.

Do yourself a favor and take a few seconds to reflect on the completed items on your to do list. Take a moment after sketching, after an hour of adding color, after sending concept sketches to t ...

Mission Statement

Do you have a mission statement? I've never felt the need to create a mission statement for what I love to do but after seeing Walt Disney's mission statement that all changed. This was insane, ...

Drawing on the Goldrush

This morning I was reading Chris Brogan's post on Social Media and the Arts and immediately my brain starts trying to translate what he is saying into ways that illustrators can use video to "draw" in more business.

Take Val's Art Diary for example. She is killing it with videos of her paintings. She has sold every painting that she ...

Beginning Life as a Freelancer

First day on the job and it feels great. Let me explain, I was laid off from my job and I am now working from home as a freelancer. Freelance illustration and design. The way I see it getting laid off is a huge opportunity to do what you want. I've dreamed of working from home as a freelancer for a long time now. I couldn't be happier which is great because my ultimate goal is to be happy. Simple enough.

With this new change I want to form new habits. I want to live in the ...

Evernote - Inspiration Vacuum

image

Over the last few days I have been using Evernote and it is absolutely fantastic. To me, it is an inspiration vacuum that sucks up text and images. It is kind of like web scrapbooking. Very cool and I love it.

Everyday I set aside a certain amount of Internet discovery time just to explore things that I am interested in. I just go with the flow and see where the links take me. Now with Evernote I can capture snipnets of information and im ...
